Hey Andrew: do you include fish/seafood in your vegetarian diet? If so, you're in luck as the whole village has great fish/seafood. If not, try El Bicho, La Iguana Azul, Leonardo's, and Pizza's Ron for really great vegetarian food. All different, all really good.

Hey - one of THE BEST vegeterian restaurants anywhere is in PV. I'd recommend that you take a side trip - it's called Planeto Vegeteriano, its by the old church on the hill. Taxi drivers should be able to help you out.

El Thai has amazing vegtable dishes. Almost anything they have on the menu can be done in a vegetarian way. I loved it! :P

Fish Taco rocks -- the only place where you can eat everyday... Ron's pizza, awesome... El Bicho, wonderful and friendly and CHEAP -- good food -- tacos in the street, eat your heart out, no one gets sick... as for veggies, well, vegans and veggies have been outlawed in Sayulita...

Finding vegetarian restaurants in Mexico has always been a challenge and Sayulita is no exception ( you will find vegetarian restaurants in large tourist destinations such as Vallarta, but in more traditional villages such as Sayulita no. In Mexico (as in most of Latin America) vegetarianism is still considered a kind of effete gringo affectation, understandable, in a country where many people have difficulty simply finding enough to eat. You are also unlikely to find much cooperation from from most restaurants in Mexico, where they will tell you what they think you want to hear concerning ingredients, they have learned that you asking if the beans have lard in them means you don't like lard so the answer is always, no, they don't have lard. The answer is to pick and choose from more gringo oriented restaurants such as Choco Banana or if you are really selective buy greceries and cook for yourself.

Andrew's probably back by now. I just want to confirm that Sayulita is definitely veggie friendly town. We are vegetarians and just got back from Sayulita last week. It's so easy to find veggie food there.

Choco banana has great veggie items. We tried some wraps and corn/bean burgers, they were great. I love their signature choco banana (with coconut srpinkles)..yummy.

Leyza and Fish taco offer lots veggie mexican choices. i like tempura(well, not so mexican) at Fish Taco and i love everything we ordered at leyza. their sauce rocks!

Raintree menu has two veggie soups, salads, and one main veggie dish, chef's special.. it's mexican fusion. It's not the best dish but it had the most beautiful presentation. This restuarant is good if you have both veggie and non veggie people mixed in your party. The non veggie menu looks luxurious.

The local place across Raintree by the river is our favarite. Basic mexican food, not a lot of choices but they taste very very good. Just tell them that u're veggie and they put beans and onions filling instead of meat. It's delicious!

Playa Escondida resort is incredible. I already miss their food. I recommend you let them know in advance about veggie request because they don't have menu. their food was amazing and dining area is cute!

Haramara yoga resort is next to Playa Escondida. We didn't eat here but we knew for sure they usually serve mostly veggie food. I talked to some guests and they said the food was great..

Other than that, there are pizza, pasta, chinese and thai in Sayulita downtown. We didn't try all,( we only stayed there one week) but we witnessed the menu and saw veggie choices. For some local places that don't have menu, we simply asked them and always got straight answers. There was no problem.

Sorry for long reply, i am vegetarian and I jsut want to share with veggie fellas. Also, I appreciate Sayulita eatery places that are thoughtful for veggie visitors. We had a wonderful time.

Thank you guest for fantastic write up. Although not a veg, I eat 80-90% veggies/fruits and what better spot than MX? You gave me good ideas and yes, Planeta Vegetariano is a superb place with lunch buffet my fave. Been in my dining guide for years! Nosh away...

Here's one great meal (but not Mexican but if you stay for a few weeks, you won't mind different meals).
Dragon Rojo: Two great dishes - The Dragon Rojo with chicken, but substitute tofu for the chicken. The second dish - ask for curry vegetables. Not on the menu but they will do it. It's a great meal, and not expensive. Plus, you can get during dinner hours the 2 drinks for the price of one special.

Sayulita Cafe has their specialty - vegetarian chiles rellenos. Caminitos and Leonardo (both on the plaza) will do vegetarian pizza; and the best, the "old" Argentinian on the corner (just up from Don Pedros) :) has a great side order of grilled/roasted vegetables. Plus Calypso has several dishes where they can leave off the meat. There's more; you just have to ask for what you want; most restaurants will try to do what you want.

for salads the best are calypso, that they give you a huge one. macondo, made at your table. fish taco, ask for a veggie bowl (rice, vegetables, dressing, beans, homemade tortillas), espresso, order a huge fruit plate with yogurt and granola, costeņo for a guacamole or mexican salsa, when you eat vegetables, you have to be careful, its not only in sayulita but everywhere and this places are well know for being clean.

I agree! Burrito Revolution was great. Also try Iguana Azul - really good veggie items there but only breakfast and lunch.
