Sayulita Fish Tacos A must visit

Posted 02 November 2005 - 02:44 PM (#1) I Love Fish Tacos

You can't visit Sayulita without, at the very least, one visit to Sayulita Fish Taco.
They are, without a doubt, the best fish tacos I have ever had, and I have had a ton of fish tacos. Fish tacos are not the only option on the menu, the shrimp tacos, the chile rellenos, the burritos, it is all good.
And, I have heard that they now have a full bar. Now I can enjoy a Margarita with my fish tacos!
When you visit Sayulita Fish Taco, be sure to introduce yourself to Mark, the owner. He is a great guy and knows everything about Sayulita.
Happy Fish Tacos!

Actually, for the sake of accuracy, his name is Alberto (Albert) and he owns it with his wife, Dora. It's not Mark.

And you're right, the food is great. It was packed with dinner guests tonight.

:)

Definitely a great place to eat. Now I'm confused, I was in Sayulita this past week and talked with Mark/Alberto? He said he is known as Alberto but his real name is Mark. Either way he's a great guy with great food. Enjoy!

Well, my name is Mark and Sayulita uses a childhood nickname of Albert(o).
Come in and I'll tell the whole story.

We can't say enough good things about Mark/Alberto, his staff and the food. He is friendly and a great source of information about the region. His staff is attentive and very hospitable. The menu is varied and all the food is great. There is a full bar and the margaritas are awsome. Don't miss a chance to eat at SAYULITA FISH TACO while in Sayulita.

:D OK just got back from a week in sayulita with 6 kids and 6 adults. We loved Sayulita fish taco!! The best in town (Rollies 2nd best) We ate there twice and did takeout once! Adrian is just about the most gorgeous server we have run into. Great personality and fun to watch on the beach surfing. He was so friendly we kept going back to see him as we ate. Hope his shoulder is better so he can keep serving up those fish and pollo tacos!!! Also didn't meet Alberto/Marc but he was busy in the kitchen and working the crowd. A MUST if you go. See you on our return!

Well I went back to Sayulita and of course I had to get my fix. I ate the fish tacos, shrimp tacos and margaritas. Everything was just as good as I left it in March. And it was good to see my friends again.

Back in Texas, Michael

We are having our wedding at a villa in Sayulita in March of 2008 and want to have Sayulita Fish Tacos cater the food because we have heard such great things about them as well as loving the local food of Mexico. We emailed them, but have not gotten a response. Is it easiest to just try calling?
i think that this forum is such a great thing. i have learned such a great deal about Sayulita and can't wait to visit.

<_< I read all of the great reviews before my trip last week and couldn't WAIT to try the best fish tacos in Mexico. Unfortunately, we never got to eat at Sayulita Fish Taco. We were told that we had to wait for a table, which was fine, but they couldn't give us an idea of how long the wait would be. We asked if we could order drinks while waiting and we were made to feel like we were imposing or creating a problem. After no drinks were forthcoming and a 15 minute wait, they seated another (larger) table that had come in after us. We left and had a great dinner elsewhere. Not good business Mark Alberto! You should be more grateful/gracious to your potential customers. You never know when and where your business is going to come from. I know, I've owned a restaurant.

;) Thank you so much for the comment. As many (visitors and locals) have told me before "you need a bigger place". That is not going to happen in the near future though. Unfortunately for those waiting for a table, a table must become available first, which could take some time. We serve much more than just Fish Tacos and those dishes do take more time to prepare and consume. People make reservations and I am sure that was the case of the larger party seating before you. We are not a bar but if there is time to make a drink to go we try to accommodate. The municipal does have a no serving alcohol in the streets law in effect now for Sayulita. That also hurts our biz. Anna I am sorry about your wasted 15 minutes and wish you and everyone to have the perfect vacation but things do happen. You owned a restaurant, you know.

WOW- Harsh!!! Your on vacation- chill- waiting 15 minutes for the best fish tacos is nothing. This is Mexico not America - that is the problem- be a traveler not a tourist and go with the flow. Maybe next time you will wait and when you do you will be happy you did!!! Mark you have always been such a gracious host to us for the last 6 years and we look forward to eating your tacos next week!!! I will wait and wait and wait!!!

Hey, he's cute and has a great taste in music. I have probably embarrassed him beyond any decency so I'll stop.

If youre talking about the young gringo guy.....lol.......that guy was a turd to us and another table. Whats up with trying to have a Spanish accent also? We are Gringos in Mexico! He was a rude person and for a minute I thought he was the owner. We met the real owner and he was a nice guy. Food was good and thats all that matters. It was my first time there so maybe Im being a little over critical, I dont know. If I can go back, I hope I get better service.

That's not what you say to a girl who admires a guy. I'm sure Mark Alberto has more than one waiter, besides you must have been fools yourselves. Your tactless comment confirms it. The guy is sweet and is bilingual, so he can feign any of the accents as far as I'm concerned. Being multilingual myself, I can appreciate occasional experimenting. Anyway, can't one have a bad day on occasion? Having been consumed by feelings to the point that I am making a fool of myself writing on this blog, do you really think I will take any negative comments on the man from someone like you?

he is rude! i agree with the other guy! and before you go he always says "thank you for your tips", and if you dont leave a good one, he will say to you!! not all the tourism is about surfing, like myself, i dont need someone talking to me at all when i want a quiet meal...

Agreed, and there is nothing more stupid than someone faking an accent to try to sound like a local, totally lame, what's the point.

This is an excellent place for views and opinions. I read here to see whats up at SFT from the outside looking in. And I would like to apologize to all who have had an unsatisfactory experience @ Sayulita Fish Taco.

My goal every season is to hire the Mexican first. My staff can make good tips and I would like to see that go tho them first. But if someone won't step up, I have to hire who is available. Not a good labor pool to pull from in Sayulita. I have been hiring since 1999. I have many stories, good and bad about staff.

What I don't get is what's the problem with a bad accent? It's only funny right? Tell him "Your accent sucks"
I have heard Guy (the waiter) go from no spanish to I think very good in a year. So he is trying out accents.
But if the service sucks and I start to see a pattern, then I will take action to correct the problem.

We are where we want to be, Sayulita. Everyone needs to chill... waiters included.

We work for you. You are the boss, Period
If anyone has a problem, please tell me or Dora( my Mexican wife who owns SFT).

I have had bad service everywhere in the world. From big cities to... well even Sayulita.
I always try to tip though. Bad service, not as much. Ask if the tips are pooled or if they just go to the waiter and make your own decision.

Well I don't know if any of this will save the world but I do know it will help me make SFT an even better place next year. L
