Hi! We will be moving to Sayulita in January....we are so excited!

We are trying to figure out some logistics....one is how can we obtain Pesos without incurring or minimizing fees. We know we can withdraw Pesos from an ATM but there is usually a service charge. What are other ways to do this? Are there US banks that have relationships with Mexican banks? Should we open a Mexican bank account (but then don't we incur wire transfer fees). We will have a FM3 Visa.

How do you folks that live there do this? What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Tony and family

We visited Sayulita for first time in March and it won't be our last. We stopped at Mega Mart on the way from PV. They have ATM's from several banks. Check with your bank about their partner bank in MX. We bank with BofA and found that Santander was their's. No fees from either bank. Later in the trip we needed pesos in Melaque and needed to use Banomex. The fees for one transaction were $5 from Banomex and $2.50 from BofA.
