Good morning from Victoria BC. My wife Janet and are coming to Sayulita in a couple of weeks. First time for either of us to take a warm winter holiday. Janet is noticing the reports of unseasonable weather - ie heavy rain in the "dry season". Can someone give us an idea of what it is like there right now? In particular, are we likely to be battling mosquitos and other insects? Is it still pleasant in spite of the rain? We do not really want to be couped up in our room for a month if the weather is inclement. Ideas on what to do if it is raining a lot? Thanks for any replies.

We are having unseasonable rains, but they are not constant, and certainly nothing like what you're used to in BC. Haven't noticed any increase in mosquitos. The jungle is greener than ever, and though I would certainly bring a good book in case of a tormenta, I sure wouldn't change my travel plans!

Thank you for the encouragement. I think my wife was reading about very heavy rains already this month and 3 - 4 inches expected later this week plus damaged trees and roads. Are these exaggerated reports? As it happens, we are having an extremely mild winter in Victoria this year. We are hoping for lots of sunshine and swimming weather in Sayulita.

Also keep in mind that we can receive in excess of 4 inches within a matter of hours, a good ol tropical deluge will only add to your adventure:-)

The trees that came down were cleared in a few hours and you don't miss them at all. There was no road damage here, apart from the usual potholes being full of water...

Hi Victoriamax, we're from Victoria, too. Leaving Feb 20th from Vic to Seattle to PV to Sayulita. When do you go? Maybe we're on same flight!

Hi. We are going direct from Victoria to PV on February 21. I guess we are likely to run into each other down there and I am glad to have in advance an explanation why someone looks familiar to me.

Are there ANY sun breaks? We're going 02/16-02/27 and the extended forecast I saw looked very grim. I'm in Seattle where it's been pouring rain...

Yes, we saw the sun this afternoon and it's a clear and starry night. I've been here fulltime for seven years and have never seen anything like this. It's certainly not raining all the time.

I'm not sure I've ever experienced a weather forecast be so wrong. We got here last Saturday, and the forecast called for clouds and rain from Tuesday on. While we absolutely got some clouds and rough seas on primarily Wednesday and a little of Thursday, not a drop of rain. The forecast I saw for today called for clouds, yet I haven't seen one all day. And like another forum member said, I actually would have loved an intense day of tropical storm.

Wow, I guess everyone from the PNW and Canada ends up in Sayulita. We are going in mid March and hope for lots of sun, but whatever.....it's a change of scenery.

Any suggestions of flights would be helpful though. We have seen anything from $450-$750. Flying on the weekend is not an option. It takes about 17 hrs. to get there and who wants to lose one whole da. getting there.
